What new features do you want?

Post by Sebastian » 30 Aug 2018, 18:20

I would like to know which features you would like to see first - thanks for helping!
I'm Sebastian from the UN Job List. I know about the UN Job List and also a little about the UN in general.

Is there a way to "pause" (rather than delete) e-mail alerts? Thanks!

Sebastian,

Just an idea: is it possible to categorise/clutter forum into specific UN bodies/agencies, or perhaps based on levels and recruitment process i.e LICA, IICA, NO, G, P1 YPP, etc?

Regardless, what you've done is already stellar! Appreciate it.
Cheers

Will

Happy to do so - let me try to understand a bit more what you were after.

Also - the forum is still very young and I'm conscious of growing the forum topics / size with the number of active contributors (I know of course that some of this is self-reinforcing). In short: if you feel there is enough volume to differentiate topics more, I'm more than happy to create them :)

Sebastian,

Thanks for trying to accommodate our interests.

I am fully aware of how young the forum is - and I'm thrilled to see it's growing! I have been socialising to my friends about the existence of your platform and I can see this is going to be an important source for those UN aspirants out there.

Allow me to structure my inputs below:

1. Compartmentalising forum
This platform has been an amazing tool to let us know in detail personal experience with UN recruitment process - much better than Glassdoor even. What you have done so far by creating separate and specific forum has been great, but I can see now a lot of forum have been pushed back to next page(s). As a new member, I might get confused and overwhelmed by the sheer number of pages and fora on the bottom of the box and it may disincentivise them from checking them one by one. And there lies the problem. I have seen new members asking the same questions in the more-crowded forum i.e Success Stories or Application Process, where a lot of answers/information had actually already existed in the other lesser-known forum.

2. Crowdsourcing information
Currently there are annual recruitment processes done by UN internationally i.e WFP FIT, YPP UN, JPO (for many specialised agencies), etc and locally - which differs from one country to another. Because it will be a recurring event every year, I would love to see these as separate-yet-dedicated fora where members can remind others (of the opening date), track the progress altogether and share interview questions. Furthermore, there are a lot of specific information out there in the world-wide web which are as valuable for the recruitment process, that people may want to contribute had the topic been specified.

For instance, in the case for JPO process, I have obtained information from JPO website (and other UN PDFs which to my surprise are made available) about different recruitment process for sponsor/donor countries vs. non-sponsor countries. Those who could navigate inside the web and get the gist of UN recruitment terminology may finally be able to understand the whole complicated process and parties involved. But that's not always the case. By specifying the forum topic by recruitment process, we can all pool our knowledge and personal experience into one and hopefully it would, at the very least, help aspirants understand why UN recruitment is so bureaucratic by nature. I'm happy to share this with fellow JPO applicants in a specific forum with more targeted audience. Perhaps it would also encourage them to share their personal stories/experience in this regard. As much as we are competitors to each other, we also want to see everyone of us succeed.

Please don't take these as criticism, Sebastian. I hope my feedback will help you improve this already-awesome platform.

Thank you for making this available for us!
Cheers

Will

Hi there,

let me think about that - I'm very happy to create more sub-categories, in fact let me try to set something up over the weekend. Especially the recurring recruitment campaign idea I really like! Can we work together to make that happen?

Cheers, Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,
My PMs are not sending. They are stuck in the outbox. What could be the problem?
