To add to what Jane said, age could also play a role in your UNV applications. Yes, the website says otherwise but I have been privy to recruitment that because of age (depending on what positions you're applying) the hiring manager won't pick you. Also, try adjusting your profile to highlight key requirement in the Special Calls/positions advertised. It took me a while to also get my first UNV assignment, this is how the UN works sometimes.jane27 wrote: ↑19 Aug 2019, 21:28Hi John, I think it depends on the available UNV vacancy that suits your profile. Some expertise can be very limited, and so are available slots or vacancies. Perhaps it's good to update your profile and make it even clearer to get higher chancesjohne wrote: ↑12 Jul 2019, 13:12Hello,
Can someone please help me in filling out the profile for UNV? I've been applying for UNv positions for the last 2 years (checking the website on the daily basis) and i've only been long listed for ONE in South Sudan. Clearly i am doing something wrong. I have been long-listed for the position on UN Inspira, went to interview stages in OSCE and other NGO agencies but for some reason not so successful on UNV website.
I have BA (currently pursuing MBA), fluent in two UN official languages, have 5 years of project management experience, 3 years of Federal Government experience, i have worked overseas when i was a student. I believe that i should get at least long-listed for SOME positions in the last 2 years![]()

Johne, you could have been longlisted for many UNV positions without your knowledge. Sometimes the recruiter at UNV HQ will send your profile to the hiring manager without sending you an email. Then its up to the hiring manager if they are courteous enough to tell you that you haven't been selected.
For example, I received rejection email from UNHCR for a UNV position in May and again in June. I didn't even know I had been long listed/shortlisted for those UNV positions.
Apart from age, your *Gender also plays a part depending on the particular field unit the UNV position is located. Not just the regional office
Re: UN Volunteering
I have come to realize that for some positions they only want to hire a *Lawyer even if the UNV description lists other bachelor degrees in the Education requirements sections. They should be specific.
Re: UN Volunteering
Hi Guys,
I was wondering if you could help me with my issue.
I have applied to several special codes for the last 2-3 months. Also, i`ve completed an un volunteer assignment with UNODC couple of months back.
I`ve started applying to new volunteer positions, as i want to secure a second posting ASAP. Received an e-mail a 1.5 month ago stating that my profile will be shared with an UN office in Somalia, since then i haven`t received any reply or invitation to an interview. Below the "Action" panel "Only click here if not available for assignment", what does that means? and my second questions,i received an assignment proposal without any e-mail from UNV and the action panel is empty, same case (1.5 months).
Any response would be highly appreciated.
Thanks

Hey H.O.P
Thank you for your answers. You confirm you interviewed end of June and only heard from them in September 2018.
I interviewed July 25 for the CAR and its been 4 weeks no word. I wonder if they will let me know I was not successful though or just wait for the one month UNV Bonn rejection mail.
Cheers

Probably. You just have to wait and find out. Keep applying too.Tanteh81 wrote: ↑24 Aug 2019, 20:44Hey H.O.P

Re: UN Volunteering
Hi, I have been longlisted from the UNV Bonn and Contacted from host UN Agencies for the interview and held 22 minutes interview on 16 August but yet not hear anything from them (from the host UN agency nor from the Bonn). Could you share your ideas how long does it take and how do I know am I selected for the position or not?
Re: UN Volunteering
Regarding age, do you mean they prefer older/younger individuals? I am turning 30 in a couple of months. Is that a good age or no? Thank you for your input.H.O.P wrote: ↑20 Aug 2019, 06:34To add to what Jane said, age could also play a role in your UNV applications. I have one assignment in "Your assignment proposals" but i have not received any emails about this. Does this mean i have been long-listed?

Yes. For example mid 40s to 50s.johne wrote: ↑26 Aug 2019, 19:28Regarding age, do you mean they prefer older/younger individuals? I am turning 30 in a couple of months. Is that a good age or no?
