Been on the P3 Programme Management Roster 18 Months and NO Bites | Advice?

Post by rickyaciii » 12 Jun 2019, 22:29

TL;DR I've been on the P3 Programme Management roster for about 18 months and no bites. Any way I can help move along?

I got on the roster because I got close to a role at Global Compact. I'd picked up some experience and contacts while representing my company to UNISDR's ARISE partnership with the private sector, then I did about a year of pro bono for UNISDR too. I think that propelled me forward, but, I only got rostered :-(.

I have a passion for reducing people's risk to natural disasters by addressing vulnerability and improving resilience. I would not necessarily have to do that work.

Assets:

PhD in Public Affairs focused on local government policy to mitigate disaster risk. Multiple conference presentations and posters and such in this field.

Strategy and operations consultant to US state and local govs for eight years with Deloitte and Accenture mostly.

Led projects supporting startup of a global crisis management service at Deloitte.

I only speak English. I'm working on French. Perhaps prioritize this?

Hello, getting rostered is a great achievement! But it typically takes time, especially for specialist roles which do not come up that often as compared to say, HR Officers. Since being rostered in 2015 I have applied to about 75 positions through Inspira and I only got re-rostered! It's important to understand that this is just a process. I finally got a P3 at another organization where I wasn't rostered, but all that interview experience definitely helped!

Also, definitely prioritize French as many many jobs are in Francophone countries and you are effectively doubling your chances.

Thank you!!!

So, how did you get "re-rostered"? Basically get knocked off the roster and then get on again through another job app?

The UN Secretariat roster is currently permanent (though it wasn't always like this and may not be forever) so at the moment you can't be knocked off. I was "re-rostered" by being endorsed as a result of a 2018 competition for a roster that I was already on. It's kind of funny seeing it in the "My Rosters" section of Inspira (the UN Secretariat's careers website) but I guess it shows that I nearly made it twice instead of once.

Have you heard back from them? I took a test for a P3 position in Dubai within Global Compact a little over a week ago but I have not heard back anything. How long did you have to wait for an interview or to hear back from them?
